Benefits

More "good guys" - the resistance starch, vitamins and minerals save the day!

Weight management
Consumption of foods containing natural resistant starch seems to positively affect weight
management in six ways.
• Fiber fortification: When added to foods such as bread, biscuits, sweet goods, pasta,
nutritional bars and cereal, resistant starch can increase fiber content without affecting taste
or texture. Its ability to increase satiety and decrease subsequent hunger, along with altering
the secretion of hormones related to food digestion, are considered likely mechanisms.
• Calorie reduction: Resistant starch can be used to replace higher calorie food ingredients,
such as flour or other rapidly digested carbohydrates. Natural resistant starch delivers
between 2-3 kilocalories/gram versus 4 kilocalories/gram of starch.
• Satiety Multiple recent studies have shown that naturally occurring resistant starch increases
satiety and reduces food intake.
• Lipid oxidation: Resistant starch may help burn fat and may lead to lower fat accumulation.
One clinical trial with resistant starch showed that it increased fat oxidation after a meal.
• Fat storage Resistant starch has been shown to improve fatty acid metabolism within adipose
tissue. A human clinical trial found increased levels of lipases (hormone-sensitive lipase
(HSL), lipoprotein lipase (LPL), and adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL)) which may indicate
increased adipocyte differentiation within the adipose tissue.

Insulin Sensitivity & Lowers Blood Sugar Levels

Resistant starch has various benefits for metabolic health. Several studies show that resistance starch
can improve insulin sensitivity, as in how well the body’s cells respond to insulin. Resistant starch is
very effective at lowing blood sugar levels after meals.
It also has a “second meal effect” – meaning that if you eat resistant starch with breakfast, it will
also lower the blood sugar spike at lunch.
Having low insulin sensitivity (insulin resistance) is believed to be a major causal factor in some of
the world’s most serious diseases, including metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, obesity,
cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Improving insulin sensitivity and lowering blood sugar may make you live both longer and better.
